Chicks in Glass Houses....

mom used to say,
"people who live in Glass Houses Should not Throw Stones....."

and the Bible says....

Matthew 7:5
You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

(... the lesson is chicks shouldn't talk about other chicks!!!)

Now these little babies would never throw a stone would they???   No way they are so cute.... but they are teaching us things...  We kept them in an old fish tank that we borrowed from my sister.....A GLASS HOUSE....  it worked out great because the kids could easily observe them from several rooms in the.. the house...  and we could break up their "little" chicken fights.  The heat lamp attached easily to the top of the tank and the babies settled in nicely.  It was fun to listen to their little peeps.

SEE.... GRANDMA was RIGHT... we are learning already from our chickens!

P.S.  Chickens don't throw stones.... BUT they DO EAT THEM.....  just thought you might want to know.

Hot Chicks in the Car

Tractor Supply boxes up the little chicks in a little to-go box… almost like a happy meal…  (needless to say, we swore off happy meals for a long time after that…..no more chicken nuggets for us!)
So we carried our little box to the check out along with a 20 lb bag of chic starter, a heat lamp, and a little red and white plastic feeder.

Everything was cute and clean……

Of course the kids argued about who got to hold the box of babies on the way home. But mostly they took turns peeking in the box and oohing and ahhing..

Have you heard about the little piggy who cried wee wee wee all the way home????
Well those baby chicks peep peep peeped and poop poop pooped all the way home...... of course it was just cute little baby chicken poop in their nice clean little box......Totally Worth It!

BABY CHICKS!!

THE HATCHERY......
Chicken Pickin' Day!  This was an exciting day...  We all loaded up in the van and headed to the nearest Tractor Supply...ONLY this year we wouldn't just pet the baby chicks and bunnies....and get a chicken magazine....as in years past.
THIS YEAR... We Were Getting Chickens!!!!!   Oh happy day!
We'll take 7 PLEASE!
Originally we were going to get four babies, one for each child,
however, our county has an ordinance that our TS enforces...
6 birds minimum!  So why seven you ask?
One for everyone in the family of course....and a spare...you know just in-case...

Ecclesiastes 3:1
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven

Dream House

Last Year we started our own journey with backyard chickens and we have not looked back... well maybe a couple times.....My Hubby had always wanted chickens (well actually a ROOSTER), but his momma always DID NOT!  They lived in the city after all.........   Enter me, farm girl from Michigan, who never had chickens either....but just down the dirt road from my parents farm was Grandma and Grandpa's farm and THEY had CHICKENS, and HORSES and PIGS... all we had were cows.    Seems my momma didn't like chickens much either! BUT Grandma did....and she told me, "you can learn a lot from an old Hen!"  So that is where our story begins.........We are learning so much from our backyard chickens!

from Titus 2
"Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."

Pictured here is the coop we WISH we had....  stay tuned for pictures of our own "down to earth" coop...  and until they do an episode of extreme coop makeover we will dream about this one....  you can see more coop ideas here:  www.backyardchickens.com/a/my-mid-life-crisis-coop
